About Scorch

Scorch is a free golf scorecard that runs in your phone browser. It is made by FHATAL, a Finnish software company, and it covers golf courses in Finland.

What Scorch is

Scorch is a website that behaves like an app. You open scorch.golf in a browser, start a round, and mark strokes hole by hole for up to four players. The card adds itself up and shows the score to par, and the round stays in your history afterwards.

Nothing is installed from an app store. You can add the page to your phone’s home screen, where it behaves like an installed app, but it is still the same website.

Scores are written to the phone first and sent to the server when the connection returns. That is the single biggest reason Scorch works on a Finnish course, where dead spots are the rule rather than the exception.

What you can do with it

  • Score stroke play, match play and scramble rounds for up to four players.
  • See GPS distance to the front, middle and back of the green.
  • Keep scoring with no connection.
  • Share a round with a link that opens without an account.
  • Look back at past rounds, stats and head-to-head records.
  • Read the hole-by-hole par for a hundred Finnish golf courses.

Who makes it

Scorch is made by FHATAL, a Finnish software company that builds websites, SaaS products and digital tools. Scorch is FHATAL’s own product, not client work.

What it costs

Nothing. Scorch is free, carries no advertising, has no paid tier and does not sell user data. You need an account to score a round, but not to open a shared one.

Where the course data comes from

Course names, hole counts, pars and hole locations come from OpenStreetMap and are used under the ODbL licence. The municipality and region are reverse geocoded from the coordinates with Nominatim.

That brings two limits, and it is better to state them than let a golfer find them on the tee. Courses that are not mapped are missing from the catalog entirely, and pars can differ from the club’s printed card if the course was rebuilt after it was mapped. Scorch has no tee lengths, course rating, slope or stroke index, because the source data does not carry them.

What Scorch is not

  • Scorch is not a disc golf product. A disc golf driver is sold under the same name by an unrelated company, and this service has nothing to do with it. Scorch is a scorecard for golf.
  • Scorch is not a handicap system. A round marked in Scorch does not reach your club and does not change your handicap. Qualifying rounds are always submitted through your club’s own system.
  • Scorch is not run by or affiliated with the Finnish Golf Union, any golf club or any course operator.
  • Scorch is not a booking system and does not sell tee times or green fees.
