How to use it

1. Open Scorch and start a round.
2. Pick your course, or add one if it is not listed. Finnish courses already have the par for every hole.
3. Add the players. Up to six, and they do not all need accounts.
4. Mark the strokes as you finish each hole. The totals and the score to par update themselves.
5. Finish the round. The card is saved to your history, and you can share it with a link.

How to read a golf scorecard

A scorecard runs left to right in hole order. The top row is the hole number and the row under it is the par. On an 18-hole card the first nine holes total in a column marked Out and the second nine in a column marked In, and the two added together give the round. A printed club card usually also carries the length of each hole from every tee and a stroke index numbered 1 to 18, which ranks the holes by difficulty for handicap purposes.

What Scorch shows

Scorch holds the hole count and the par of every hole for the courses in its catalog. It does not hold tee lengths, course rating, slope or stroke index, so those are not on the course pages. If you need them, the club’s own site is the place to look.

What is a golf scorecard?

A golf scorecard is the record of how many strokes each player took on each hole. It lists the holes in order with the par for each, and you write a number in the box as you finish the hole. Adding the boxes up gives the round total, and comparing that total to the course par gives your score to par.

How do you keep score in golf?

Count every stroke you make on a hole, including putts and penalty strokes, and write that number down before you tee off on the next hole. In stroke play you add all the holes together. In match play you only record who won each hole. One player in the group normally marks for everyone.

Is there a free online golf scorecard?

Yes. Scorch is a free golf scorecard that opens in any phone browser. There is nothing to install and no charge, and you can score a round for up to six players.

Can I use a digital scorecard without a signal?

In Scorch, yes. Scores are written to the phone first and sent to the server when the connection comes back, so a course with no coverage does not stop you scoring.

What does par mean on a scorecard?

Par is the number of strokes a scratch golfer is expected to need on that hole. A par 3 is one shot to the green and two putts, a par 4 allows two shots to the green, and a par 5 allows three. Adding the par of every hole gives the par of the course, usually between 68 and 73.

Do I need an account to look at a shared round?

No. A shared round link opens for anyone. You only need an account to score your own rounds and keep your history.
